Curing vs. Healing
Curing: What medical science attempts to do through treatments and medications. The result is the hope that serieses of treatments lead to an event which is the absence of disease. Healing: An internal process one does for themselves. Healing restores balance and harmony to the body, mind and spirit. Healing can take place without a cure. Healing activities are essential when negative influences like illness, loss, or life encompass one’s life. |
How does art heal?Scientific studies reveal that art helps heal by changing a one’s attitude and physiology. The body’s physiology changes from one of fear to one of creativity and/or inspiration, and from stress to one of deep relaxation. Art and music puts one in a different brain wave pattern, and affect one’s autonomic nervous system. They also affects one’s brain neurotransmitters and hormonal balance. Music and art instantly affect every cell in one’s body, creating a healing physiology that changes blood flow to the organs the immune system. They immediately change one’s perception of the world, along with one’s emotional state, attitude, and pain perception. Therefore, art and music can create positivity and hope, and are able to help one cope with difficulties.
Neurophysiologists confirm that art, prayer, and healing are all associated with similar brain wave patterns, come from the same source in the body, and are all connected in meaning and feeling. These things take one into his/her inner world of visions, imagery, emotions, and feelings. This journey inwards into the spirit (mind) is deeply healing because healing comes from within. Our own healing recourses are freed through the arts, allowing our immune systems to operate optimally, which is how we heal. |
The human body is made to heal itself, and it does this best when in a state of relaxation. The arts can bring our bodies into their natural states of harmony and balance so they can best do what they are trying to do. We are capable of becoming so absorbed into art that we can naturally fall into an altered-like state. With the use of highly sensitive measuring resources, scientists have discovered that when we are in deep meditation/relaxation, the frequency of our electromagnetic fields become attuned to a state of harmony. When our bodies achieve this sense of alignment, they are at the prime and best state to perform repairs, release good/positive hormones, and heal.
